چکیده

Overall, renal function assessed by estimated glomerular filtration rate correlates with total and cardiovascular mortality in a graded fashion. In addition, microalbuminuria is a prognostic indicator for both progression of chronic renal insufficiency and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Chronic renal insufficiency related neurohumoral stimulation, including the renin–angiotensin-aldosterone system and the sympathetic nervous system is focused on, therapeutic implications are provided. In addition, the role of systemic inflammation with respect to endothelial function, vascular calcification and metabolism is highlighted. This review aims to summarize recent research results concerning chronic renal insufficiency pathomechanisms relevant to cardiovascular disease.

Sagliker Syndrome in a Patient with Secondary Hyperparathyroidism and Chronic Renal Insufficiency: A Case Report
Sagliker syndrome is a rare form of renal osteodystrophy resulted from untreated secondary hyperparathyroidism. It is described by severe skeletal deformities, high level of PTH in patients with chronic renal failure, and deformed face. This paper reports a 44-year-old male patient with the mentioned characteristics. In addition to the unique clinical features, high levels of ALP and PTH hormon...
متن کاملThe Incidence of Cardiovascular Events Is Comparable Between Normoalbuminuric and Albuminuric Diabetic Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease
Diabetic kidney disease leads to microalbuminuria and gradually progresses to overt proteinuria with renal insufficiency. Recent studies have demonstrated that 20% to 40% of patients with diabetic kidney disease are normo- to microalbuminuric, despite reduced renal function. We investigated renal and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes and renal insufficiency who were normo-, micr...
متن کاملFGF23 from bench to bedside.
There is a strong association between elevated circulating fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) levels and adverse outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) of all stages. Initially discovered as a regulator of phosphate and vitamin D homeostasis, FGF23 has now been implicated in several pathophysiological mechanisms that may negatively impact the cardiovascular and renal systems. F...

متن کاملEffect of fasting on renal physiology
Total abstention from food and water from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadan, is practiced by hundreds of millions of Muslims throughout the world. This pattern of fasting during Ramadan is different from the usual fasting as people are allowed to eat and drink between sunset and dawn but not after dawn. The amount and type of food (rich in protein, fat and sugar) eaten during the n...
